The Introductory Consultation

The Introductory Consultation provides an opportunity for both parties to assess the overall situation and for us to suggest the most appropriate course of action. From the clients point of view it will afford an overview of the careers counselling services on offer and their potential costs.

The prime objective of this introductory session is one of information gathering and initial evaluation of the situation which then forms the basis for any subsequent counselling. Prior to the consultation we ask the client to provide as much documentary evidence relevant to the situation as possible. This would include a recent curriculum vitae or completion of our own pro-forma career questionnaire. If any psychometric test/questionnaire has recently been completed then the results and report are especially valuable.

At the conclusion of the Introductory Consultation the counsellor will advise the client on possible further courses of action. It may be that the problem has been resolved and no further action is necessary or that the resolution lies elsewhere and we can offer no further assistance. In the latter case we are always happy to direct clients to other sources of help. Where we feel that we can be of continued assistance then the following services are on offer:-

Curriculum Vitae Preparation - The CV is the single most important document that you will need in the job search process. It follows that it is worthwhile taking some time to produce the best CV that you can, appropriate to the type(s) of jobs that are to be applied for. Various pro-forma letters of application are also discussed.

Psychometric Evaluation - This is particularly valuable within the context of an anticipated fundamental career change. We have the ability to administer a wide range of tests and questionnaires.

Education and Training Guidance - In the process of assessment and career choice we may identify the need for further academic or vocational training. We have particular expertise and the necessary resources to offer advice on the full range of educational and training opportunities.

Search Plan - This is a comprehensive package of advice concentrated upon the preparation phase of the job search process and includes CV Preparation and Psychometric Evaluation. In addition, a job search master plan is designed using the best methods and techniques for self-marketing and promotion.

Executive Search - This is our full outplacement service which combines both the preparation and implementation phases of the job search process. As well as advising on the best means of accessing the advertised and unadvertised jobs markets we offer full counselling support right up to the start of a new job. This can include such areas as interview technique, stress management, package negotiation, etc.
