Trial UCAS Application
This service is offered as a complete package in itself or as an integral and important part of our Educational Guardianship service.

Candidates for Higher Education are now presented with a bewildering choice of courses and institutions all vying for attention under the new Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS) umbrella.

There has also been a rapid expansion of the tertiary education system through widening access including the expansion of the non-'A' Level entry route. Candidates may now offer General National Vocational Qualifications (GNVQ's) as well as vocational NVQ's or a combination of academic and vocational qualifications. For older candidates an element of Assessment of Prior Experiential Learning (APEL) may also be appropriate.

Many courses at both the older universities and the former polytechnics are modular or offered under the Credit Accumulation and Transfer Scheme (CATS).

Competition for degree course places continues to intensify, as does competition for jobs after higher education. In the current round of university applications it is clear that the rapid expansion of available places has come to an end. It is imperative, therefore, that students give careful thought to their applications. Oxford Educational Consulting offers realistic, personal and specialist advice which will maximise the chances of a successful application to the more competitive courses and institutions.

As part of the Trial UCAS Application scheme, we will:

* Advise on UCAS procedures and essential documentation

* Provide access to research sources including university/college prospectuses, general careers/higher education publications and Internet sites.

* Work with the candidate to produce a short-list of suitable higher education courses and institutions

* Discuss these courses in detail, give an indication of grade requirements, special subject requirements and the level of competition for places

* Provide assistance in completing the UCAS form, in particular the 'Further Information' section, which is the students' main opportunity to market themselves

* Monitor the whole application process and keep the applicant informed of vacancies, deadlines and clearing procedures
